How to repair damaged flash memory without software and solve the problem of unknown capacity

Method 1: Use the Windows error checking tool

This method uses a tool built into the Windows operating system called “Check,” which scans the flash memory and fixes detected errors. To use this method, follow these steps:

  • Insert the flash memory into its designated port on the computer.
  • Open “This PC” and search for the name of the flash memory.
  • Right-click on the name of the flash memory and choose “Properties” from the drop-down menu.
  • Go to the Tools tab and click the Check button under the Error checking heading.
  • Click the “Scan and repair drive” button and wait for the scan and repair to finish.
  • Move important data from the flash memory to another location and try to format the flash memory after that.

Method 2: Use the Disk Management tool in Windows
This method uses a tool built into the Windows operating system called Disk Management, which manages, partitions, and formats disks connected to the computer. To use this method, follow these steps:
  • Insert the flash memory into its designated port on the computer.
  • Press the Windows key and the letter R at the same time to open the Run box.
  • Type “diskmgmt.msc” in the Run box and press Enter.
  • The Disk Management window will appear and you will see a list of disks connected to the computer.
  • Find the flash memory, right-click on it, and choose “Delete volume” from the drop-down menu.
  • After deleting the volume, the flash memory will appear as Unallocated space.
  • Right-click on the unallocated space and choose “New simple volume” from the drop-down menu.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new volume and format the flash memory.
